Installation Guide

Everything you need to plan and install your YOGA WALL® system

How the YOGA WALL® Works

The YOGA WALL® is designed around our patented ball-and-socket hardware system. You mount spring-loaded socket wall plates into 3/4″ hardwood veneer plywood. Wall belts and bars snap into the wall plates with a brass ball — no tools required during use. The basic setup has 3 rows of wall plates; the deluxe setup has 5 rows. Plates are mounted in columns 16″ apart. The plywood attaches to the wall via 2×4 horizontal blocking bolted into existing wall studs.

Step-by-Step Installation

1

Purchase Your Plywood at a Local Lumber Yard

You source the plywood yourself — this keeps your costs down and lets you choose the finish that fits your space. Use 3/4″ hardwood veneer plywood (oak, birch, or any species you prefer). Each sheet is 4 feet wide × 8 feet tall. Sheets install end-to-end for a continuous wall.

Tools You Will Need

Gather these tools before you begin:

  • Router with Universal Base Plate (we provide)
  • Router Template (available to rent — $300 refundable deposit)
  • 3/4″ double flute straight cutting bit
  • Pistol drill & 5/16″ drill bit
  • Saber saw (jigsaw)
  • 1&3/8″ butterfly bit or hole cutter
  • Allen wrench & socket wrench
  • "C" clamps (at least two)

Use the Router Template to Cut Wall Plate Holes

Clamp the router template snugly to the plywood sheet at your measured mark. Do not let the template move — if it shifts mid-cut, the plywood is ruined. Set your router depth for a 3/16″ deep cut, accounting for the template thickness. Practice on scrap before cutting your finished plywood. The template spaces holes exactly 16″ apart horizontally.

Install the Wall Plates

Using a nail, mark hole centers after routing. Drill four corner holes with a 5/16″ bit, then use a 1&3/8″ hole saw to cut the two center holes. Use a jigsaw to remove wood between the two center holes. Install the back plate (spring points down) then align the front plate (notch points down) using a wall belt to confirm correct seating. A lined-up back plate means the ball is properly seated.

Mount the Plywood to Your Wall

Bolt 2×4 horizontal blocking into your existing wall studs (use 3″ structural screws). Position them to align with the plywood. Then screw the plywood into the 2×4s. The plywood should sit flush and solid — it will carry significant load during use. Additional plywood sections can be added at any time to expand your system.
